Otto is a six-year-old, 92-pound German Shepherd with a calm, affectionate personality. Even in the shelter, he regularly came to the front of his kennel for attention, approaching people with a soft, relaxed body and happily accepting petting. Staff described him as gentle, easy to leash, tolerant of handling, and very easy to work with.
Otto can be a little reserved when something is unfamiliar, but a patient approach works well for him. Once he is comfortable, he actively seeks out attention and seems to enjoy simply being near people. His shelter evaluations consistently showed a steady dog who handled a difficult environment remarkably well.
Otto came into the shelter with a large, painful mass near the base of his tail. He has understandably been sensitive about handling around that area, which is why the shelter recommended going slowly with him and placed a 12+ age recommendation for children. Rescue Street is continuing his medical care, and Otto will remain on medical hold while the mass is removed and he recovers.
For someone who appreciates a mature German Shepherd with a calmer demeanor and a fondness for human attention, Otto already has a lot going for him. Once his medical team clears him, he’ll be ready to trade recovery time for home life.
