Don't let the silver in her fur fool you -- Moxie still has plenty of spark left.
At 10 years old, this sweet Maltese mix knows exactly what she wants out of life: a warm lap, a gentle hand, a squeaky toy to fetch, and ideally something with water nearby. She is not in a hurry. She does not need to be.
Moxie is the perfect companion for someone who wants a dog that enjoys life at a comfortable pace. She loves car rides and likes going places and meeting people -- but she is equally happy coming home, settling in next to you on the couch, and staying there for the rest of the evening. She'll even indulge in a few rounds of fetch with her favorite squeaky baby before deciding the couch was the right idea all along.
Here's something that will make you smile: Moxie talks. When you're holding her and giving her scratches, she will look right at you and just start vocalizing -- little sounds that can only be described as a conversation. It is, without question, one of the most endearing things you will ever witness in a dog.
She also loves water. Pool, bathtub, lake, bucket -- if there is water, Moxie is already headed for it. She is surprisingly brave for such a small girl.
At home she is affectionate, calm, and loyal. She loves to burrow her face into blankets when she's getting cozy, she sleeps with her person, and she is completely comfortable on furniture. She has lived in both a house and an apartment and adapted beautifully to both. She gets along well with other dogs and cats -- she may get a little jealous when it's her turn for attention, but she is gentle and safe around other animals.
Moxie once held certification as an anxiety service animal, which tells you everything about the kind of calm, connected presence she brings to a home. She's also a dedicated chewer when it comes to longer-lasting bones and snacks -- something her new family will want to keep stocked.
A couple of things to know going in: Moxie will need regular professional grooming to keep her beautiful coat looking its best, she can be a selective eater who may need a little coaxing at mealtime, and her vision may be starting to soften a bit with age. Nothing a patient, devoted owner can't handle.
Moxie is not looking for just any home. She is looking for HER home -- and when she finds it, she will give you everything she's got. Including a full conversation if you scratch her in just the right spot.
