Lemon is a 3-year-old Australian Shepherd mix who came to Rescue Street after the shelter environment became simply too much for her.
At the shelter, Lemon was profoundly frightened and withdrawn. She curled herself into the back of her kennel, trembled when people approached, and tried to make herself as small as possible. Treats and coaxing couldn’t compete with her fear, but one thing remained remarkably consistent: Lemon allowed people to help her. Staff were able to leash her, pet her, carry her, and gently move her between spaces without aggression.
Lemon wasn’t looking for attention yet. She was a scared little dog trying to feel safe enough to exist in the world around her.
Now Lemon has the opportunity to learn that people can be predictable, home can feel safe, and she doesn’t have to disappear when something feels overwhelming. She will do best with someone patient and gentle who is comfortable letting trust develop at Lemon’s pace while giving her the consistency and security she needs.
Behind all that fear is a young dog who deserves the chance to discover what life feels like when she finally knows she is safe.
